God uses the church to redeem the world to Himself. Here at Cedar Crest we are excited to partner with local, state and international ministries to fulfill God's plan. There are many ways to get involved. You can make a difference. Join us locally, in New Orleans, Denver and in Bulgaria as we show God's love to others. Plus there are many ways to get involved in the church.
TO GET INVOLVED:
Desiard St. Shelter - The Desiard St. Shelter feeds the homeless in downtown Monroe 6 days a week. They need volunteers to prepare and serve the food and to just go love on people. We also need people to make desserts and side dishes and to help us financially with the meal. Cedar Crest goes one day a month. Space is limited to 6 people each month so you must sign up to go.
Kid's Hope - Kids Hope USA develops one-on-one relationships through the creation of church-school partnerships that pair church members with at-risk kids in supportive, mentoring relationships. Kids Hope USA mentors spend just one hour or less per week, reading, talking, playing and listening to a child at school. By helping the child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow and succeed. We work directly with Kiroli Elementary and Drew Elementary and need volunteers to be a mentor with an at-risk student for 30 minutes a week during the school day.
Life Choices - Life Choices Pregnancy Resource Center of Monroe offers help for one of life's toughest circumstances – an unplanned pregnancy. They offer pregnancy tests and information in a caring and confidential environment. Life Choices also offers ultrasound, counseling, post abortive counseling and abstinence education. In addition, the HOPE program is designed for material assistance throughout the pregnancy and the first year of the baby’s life. There are many ways to volunteer: Office Help, Peer Counselor, Mentor/Class Leader, Mentor/Class Leader Assistant, Outside Grounds Work and many more. Click here for detailed explanations of each opportunity.
Mercy Ministries - Mercy Ministries’ free-of-charge, voluntary, faith-based residential program serves young women from all socio-economic backgrounds, ages 13-28, who face a combination of life-controlling issues such as eating disorders, self-harm, drug and alcohol addictions, depression and unplanned pregnancy. Mercy also serves young women who have been physically and sexually abused, including victims of sex trafficking. We plan various activities throughout the year with the ladies in our local Mercy home. Volunteers are needed to help plan these activities or just to come hang out at the events to show Christ's love.
Truckstop Ministries Inc - TMI is a ministry whose mission is to carry the Great Commission to the Truckers of the world. We have chaplains who go every Sunday to the West Monroe Pilot gas station on Well Road to preach the gospel and minister to truck drivers. Volunteers are needed to pass out flyers, attend the service and just be there to visit with the truckers.
Journey to Bethlehem
A Christmas Gift to the Community from Cedar Crest Baptist Church
A 20-Minute 'Walk Thru' Christmas Drama the first weekend in December. Experience the sights and sounds of the world of That First Christmas. Volunteers are needed to help load and unload and to participate as a cast member.
In the state
We are currently the sponsor church for West Bank Baptist Church in New Orleans. Ryan Melson is the pastor. Volunteers are needed when we go on mission trips to visit West Bank. We will take at least 2 trips per year, or more depending on the need and availability of volunteers to go.
One Life Church with pastor Frank Valenzano is a church in Prairieville, LA. We contribute financially to One Life and take mission trips as needed and as volunteers are available.
Our current United States mission emphasis is located in Denver, CO. The Heights Church is a new church plant which began having weekly services on February 12, 2017. A group from Cedar Crest went in January to hang door hangers inviting people to their services. We also have a couple, James & Tamra Keys, who moved to Denver for one year to work with the church plant.
In Bulgaria we go to different areas and work with the pastors in the Bulgarian Baptist Union and several major cities in Bulgaria. We also work with a missionary there to put on VBS and Sports Camps. Volunteers are needed to pray and to go.
