Prayer This Week

Thoughts from a funeral

Funerals are a part of life. People stand in small groups talking about many different things that might ease the pain they feel. They pass by the coffin, pausing for a time, as memories flood their hearts. Even though unspoken, there comes a common phrase. “If only I could hear their voice again and see their smile.” The realization that person is gone strikes their heart like a hammer on an anvil.

Let’s examine another perspective. If the deceased was a Christian, who exercised their prayer life, to the strength God intended it to be, there is no sadness, in their astonishing new heart. So often they had longed to see the face of Jesus. So long had they yearned to hear the beauty of His voice. They had talked with Him for many precious hours and felt His love in the conversation. Now the very person they longed for smiles as He touches them.

Prayer is our preparation for tomorrow in every sense of the word. He invites us to know Him now.
